Dave,
And I'll add a few comments to Jing's request....
We discussed today wrapping each DarwinCore node's results in an EML
description so that the records appear as a single table. Thus, the
output might look something like this:
+ Fish data <== An EML data package
- Species List
- Metabolism
+ Amphibian data <== An EML data package
+ Manis <== A Darwin core data package
- Specimen Occurences
+ KU Birds <== A Darwin core data package
- Specimen Occurences
So the sense of a "data package" is maintained, but each of the Darwin
core results will have a single virtual "table" that contains the darwin
core fields. Thus, someone in the Kepler UI can treat Darwin core and
EML data uniformly because we abstract away the differences in the UI.
The EML data sources would contain potentially multiple tables, while
the Darwin core tables would only contain one. Double clicking on the
package title produces an HTML view of the EML metadata for each (via
XSL), which includes a definition of the columns in the table(s). The
Darwin Core nodes would have a single EML document describing the whole
collection.
It would be really useful if you went over the screen shots for the
Kepler UI. Jing walked us through them today, but your experience with
DiGIR and Darwin core would be valuable in figuring out if we missed
something important.
Thanks,
Matt
